Leadership San Antonio (LSA) is a jointly sponsored program of the Greater San Antonio Chamber of Commerce and the San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. It provides a learning experience for existing and emerging leaders in the San Antonio metropolitan area. Participants of the program are given the opportunity to develop an understanding of the promises and challenges facing our community.
In 1975, the Greater San Antonio Chamber of Commerce created a leadership program for the purpose of identifying potential community leaders. It was one of the first of its kind in Texas. There are now more than 850 graduates of this chamber-sponsored program. In 1992, it was decided that this program could be enhanced by involvement from the San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, and both chambers agreed that, beginning with the 1993-94 program, it would be a jointly sponsored effort.
For 34 years, LSA has provided a forum in which leaders with diverse backgrounds, values and points of view come together in a neutral setting, examine the nature and inner workings of San Antonio, and discuss the issues, challenges, and problems facing our community. LSA seeks to open lines of communication and thought among class members in order to foster a network of alumni with a similar body of experience and a greater sense of community. In the process, participants are able to learn from present and future decision-makers in both the public and private sectors.
The program is designed as an educational experience. LSA does not attempt to create a consensus of opinions or promote any specific issue or project. Participants are encouraged to take their increased knowledge of the community, awareness of its institutions, and familiarity with its leaders into their world and involve themselves in all areas of community life. Utilizing their leadership capacities with a broader understanding of the complexities that our diverse community represents, participants are better prepared to lead San Antonio to a brighter future.

Building Business Excellence Building Business Excellence program teaches business owners how to grow their business by teaching them concepts that they can apply to their businesses to make them more efficient, and develop strategies for leadership excellence.
In September 2006, Compass Bank partnered with SAHCC, UTSA and Telemundo for an awards breakfast where they gave away three grants to Latina business owners as scholarship for this year’s Building Business Excellence Program. This partnership enabled emerging Latina business owners to pursue opportunities to help take their businesses to the next level of excellence.

Internship Program The San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce had the great pleasure of participating in the City of San Antonio’s Ambassador Program, which provided the Hispanic Chamber with eight interns for the summer. This program provides college freshman and sophomore students the opportunity to work with companies throughout the community.
We are also pleased to announce that the Hispanic Chamber continues to work with area high schools, colleges and universities to provide internship opportunities for students to receive course-credit for their hours of work. This provides the students with hands on experience and a look inside the non-profit world and the different aspects of business.
Texas Association of Mexican American Chambers of Commerce The San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce continues to make strides within the Texas Association of Mexican American Chambers of Commerce (TAMACC). San Antonio is the host city of the 32nd Annual TAMACC Convention & Business Expo. With the cooperation of our partners: the City of San Antonio, the San Antonio Convention & Visitors Bureau and our Corporate Partners, we look forward to hosting one of the most successful TAMACC Conventions to date. San Antonio will see an influx of business people from around the state on July 25-28th, 2007. The Business Expo will be open to the public, and Corporate America will be available to show new products and provide information on products and services available.
In July 2006, the Hispanic Chamber was a participant of the Convention & Expo held in El Paso, Texas where we were proud to have been the nominating chamber for two award recipients: Henry Cisneros was recognized as Business Man of the Year and General Motors was recognized as the Corporate Hispanic Business Advocate of the Year. The Hispanic Chamber was proud to nominate these two outstanding members for the awards.
United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce The U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (USHCC) Foundation continues its partnership with Ford Motor Company Fund in 2006 by hosting the Youth Entrepreneurship “BizFest” in San Antonio, focusing on the automotive industry. The San Antonio “BizFest” is part of a series of automotive-specific training camps created to boost the number of Hispanics employed in the automotive industry. The training camps are funded by a five-year $1 million grant from Ford Motor Company Fund. This was the first time a “BizFest” was held in San Antonio.
The San Antonio “BizFest” took place April 19-22, 2006 at The University of Texas at San Antonio's Downtown Campus. The intensive four-day workshop equipped students with tools necessary for success in careers with or in the automotive industry in areas such as, dealership ownership, automotive supplier development, automotive technology, marketing/sales/service, engineering/manufacturing, information technology, and product development. Students also learned how to launch their own business, establish entrepreneurial and leadership goals, create plans for business and life, become effective leaders and team players, identify investment opportunities, and make public presentations.
James Hoover, a local student attending San Antonio Community College was the winner of the 2006 National Bizfest. Students selected to participate in the “BizFest” took part in leadership development, entrepreneurship training and creating and presenting business plans. Participants competed for scholarships, prizes, long-term business support, and the opportunity to participate in the National “BizFest” Competition at the USHCC 27th Annual National Convention & Business Expo which took place September 19-23, 2006 in Philadelphia, PA.
