Margaret Wilson-Anaglia

Founder / Owner, Al's Gourmet Nuts, Chair, Port San Antonio

    Margaret Wilson-Anaglia is a trailblazing leader, accomplished entrepreneur, and dedicated community advocate with deep roots in San Antonio. In 2023, she achieved a historic milestone as the first African American woman to serve as the Port Board Chair, showcasing her groundbreaking impact.


    With over 30 years of diverse experience in public, private, and non-profit sectors, Wilson-Anaglia is known for seamlessly blending her entrepreneurial spirit, commitment to women's empowerment, and effective leadership. As the founder of Al's Gourmet Nuts and former Director of LiftFund’s Women’s Business Center, she has made significant contributions to both business and community development. Margaret's extensive board service, including roles with the Brooks Development Authority and City of San Antonio Charter Review Committee, reflects her unwavering commitment to community engagement. Honored with numerous awards, including the San Antonio Business Journal Women’s Leadership Award and National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO)–Innovators Award, she continues to leave an indelible mark on San Antonio, embodying resilience, leadership, and a passion for community betterment.

The Legacy & Merit Award recognizes a San Antonio area woman entrepreneur who has made outstanding contributions to the status of women in business throughout her career in business and the community. Emphasis is placed on established accomplishments and enduring efforts within business leadership and community partnerships.

Monica Nino

Co-Owner, The Board Couple

    Monica Nino is the co-owner of The Board Couple in San Antonio and Comfort.

    Their concept has been recognized by The Wall Street Journal and USA Today’s 10Best.

    The Board Couple, a concept focused on charcuterie and wine, began in 2018. Since then, Monica has studied wine through WSET and earned certifications as a Mt. Etna Wine Ambassador, Napa Valley Wine Expert and Champagne MOOC.


    Prior to pursuing her restaurant passion full-time, she had a storied career as an Emmy-award-winning television journalist. For many years, she worked in television by day and the restaurants at night.


    In her spare time, Monica volunteers with the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo, has mentored for Communities In Schools, is a member of Les Dames d ‘Escoffier and continues to mentor young journalists.


    She is a graduate of Texas State University.


    Monica resides in San Antonio with her partner, Bryan, and their beloved dog, Olive. 

The Women-Owned Business Award recognizes a San Antonio area woman business owner who has demonstrated excellence in operating, growing, and leading her business. Emphasis is placed on resiliency and positively navigating the on-going effects of the pandemic as a business leader.

The Service Award:

Martha Martinez-Flores

Creative Director / Principal, MM Creative

    Martha is a Chicago-born / Mexico-bred Creative Director who calls San Antonio home. She has over 25 years of experience developing strategic creative work for a variety of clients. She obtained a BFA in Graphic Design with a minor in Mexican Art History from the University of Illinois at Chicago School of Art and Design.


    In a span of 12 years, she worked at 3 San Antonio leading ad agencies moving up the ranks from Art Director to Creative Director overseeing national campaigns (TV, Radio, Print, Promotions) and new business pitches. Her agency work experience includes fortune 500 clients such as: The Coca-Cola Company, The Hershey’s Company, Fisher Price, Kraft, NY Life and The Dial Corporation. She also worked on assignments for the CDC, CNN Latino, The Museum of Fine Arts Houston, TIAA-CREF, the Las Vegas Convention and Visitor’s Authority, and CPS Energy among others.


    Martha is committed to always working on creative ideas that will empower and improve the community. Her work has garnered her local, regional and national recognition. She has won over 50 local and national awards for her creative work.Martha started MM Creative in 2011 to provide cultural creative ideas and design to clients and organizations. To date her clients include: SAY Sí, Girl Scouts of Southwest Texas; YWCA, H-E-B, Pearl, Texas A&M San Antonio, SAMA, the City of San Antonio Parks and Recreation Department and the Department of Arts and Culture, CAST Schools, the USA Yoga Federation, UTSA, Pre-K 4 SA, La Gloria, The Frutería and Burgerteca and Feeding America National Headquarters. For H-E-B, she’s created over 15 Spanish Language campaigns including the first Spurs TV spot in Spanish which garnered millions of digital views. Martha has worked as Creative Director of cultural programming at Pearl, including the development of Día de los Muertos and Posada, where she brings an authentic voice and the inclusion of local community partners and artists. 


    In 2020, MM Creative along with Giant Noise launched a Covid-19 Safety campaign for COSA featuring San Antonio musicians which garnered the attention of the National Endowment of the Arts for promoting local talent. Also, in 2020 Martha created the SA IS AMOR campaign, a visual love letter to San Antonio in the form of a limited-edition print and merchandise that have raised over $55,000 for local nonprofit organizations. The SA IS AMOR artwork is now a 5-story mural as part of Centro’s Art everywhere program in downtown San Antonio and has evolved to include a Spurs are Amor line for the Silver and Black Foundation.


    In 2021 her design work was featured in United Way’s first bilingual annual giving campaign for the city. She is a master storyteller who has produced videos for Visit San Antonio’s IPW conference selling San Antonio as a global destination and a short documentary series for YWCA that tells the story of women living in poverty in the community and the hardships they endure. These videos were an official selection for the San Antonio Film Festival.


    Martha is also passionate about serving the community, she is a member of Leadership San Antonio class #37 and steering committee member of class #41, she has served on the San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Executive Board where she chaired the Marketing Committee, she served on the HDRC commission for the City of San Antonio representing District 5. With her spouse, she co-chairs a campaign committee for SAY Si’s new campus going into the west side of San Antonio - one of the nation’s most economically challenged zip codes. She was also a founding board member for LSAISD. She served as an advisory board member for Vote Like a Woman- a nonpartisan national campaign and currently is the mayoral appointee for the Hemisfair Park Area Redevelopment Board of Directors as well as an active board member for the SA Book Festival.


    Martha lives in Monte Vista, where she works from her home studio, with her husband Mike and their daughters Mara and Mia, and their mini goldendoodle Maya.

The Service Award recognizes a San Antonio area woman who has volunteered her time and effort to better improving the lives of women, and goes above and beyond the call of duty to serve her community in mind and spirit.

Ignite: Rising Star Award

Lorraine Pulido, Ph.D.

Communications Manager, VIA Metropolitan Transit

    Dr. Lorraine Pulido is grateful to be of service to her community. She is dedicated to helping empower women, in particular, and contributes her experience, expertise, heart, and soul to the causes she champions, including education, economic development, and transportation.


    On December 5, 2023, Dr. Lorena “Lorraine” Pulido was unanimously elected to serve as Chair of the Brooks Development Authority Board of Directors, the first-ever woman to lead in its more than 20 years of existence. Dr. Pulido was appointed to the Brooks Board of Directors in December 2017, and served as Vice Chair from 2019 to 2023. In addition, she served on the Brooks Gives Back Board, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, as Vice Chair, also from 2019 to 2023. Brooks Gives Back serves as the vehicle by which all members of the Brooks community can invest in nonprofit initiatives impacting people in the neighborhoods surrounding Brooks. Dr. Pulido is the Communications Manager for VIA Metropolitan Transit. She has more than 28 years of experience in the marketing and communications industry, previously serving as public relations manager for the City of San Antonio.


    She also serves on the Alamo Colleges District Board of Trustees for District 4, elected with 78 percent of the vote in December 2020. She advocates for all students, especially for students who juggle parenthood and academics. In addition, she has served on the Cesar E. Chavez Legacy and Educational Foundation Scholarship Committee since 2020, and this year she is co-chairing the Cesar E. Chavez Scholarship Fundraiser Dinner to help graduating high school students with their college expenses.


    Dr. Pulido also serves on the advisory committee for Significant U, and has helped secure hundreds of prom dresses for disadvantaged high school seniors, and has participated as a keynote and motivational speaker in the Significant U conference.


    She has also served on the coordinating team for St. Leonard’s Women’s ACTS Retreat three times, as well as serving as a current church lector. She also contributes her time to the Society of Professional Journalists “Gridiron Show” and the SA Association of Hispanic Journalists to raise thousands of dollars for students majoring in communications and journalism. Her legacy of serving our community is ongoing since her time of serving on the SAY Si Youth Program Board, the SA Women’s Chamber Board, the SA Hispanic Chamber’s Latina Leadership Institute Steering Committee, the PRSA-SA chapter Board, and the South Texas Business Partnership – Southside First Economic Development Council.


    She is a part-time adjunct communications professor at Texas A&M University - San Antonio, and has taught hundreds of students in her 24 years of teaching at various colleges. She is a proud graduate of the SA Hispanic Chamber’s LSA Program – Class of 2005, and the then-South Chamber’s City South Leadership Academy – Class of 2017. She was inducted into the SA Women’s Hall of Fame in 2023, and the Harlandale ISD Hall of Fame in 2021.

The Rising Star Award recognizes an up-and-coming professional woman in the San Antonio community who exhibits exceptional talent and a promising future in her field. Emphasis is placed on recent accomplishments, promotions and/or demonstration of leadership and community service.

The Advocacy Award:

Renee Watson

Director, Small Business and Entrepreneurship Department, Bexar County

    Renee Watson - Responsibilities include coordinating, facilitating, implementing and monitoring the County’s Small, Minority & Women Owned Business Enterprise (SMWBE) Program, Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) Liaison and Title VI Coordinator. She acts as a liaison with offices and departments to ensure that SMWBEs have access to County procurement, contracting and professional services opportunities. She reviews current practices to assess and recommend improvements to increase participation. Renee works in cooperation with the Purchasing Agent, offices and departments to explore these concepts and analyze the advantages and disadvantages to modifying current practices. In addition, she works directly with community organizations, other public entities and vendors to promote participation and access in local, state and federal and private sector procurement opportunities. She is a member of the County Manager’s Executive Leadership Team.


    Renee holds a Master Contract Compliance Administrator (MCCA) Certification from Morgan State University. She is identified as a national expert and conducted a workshop on Disparity Studies at the American Contract Compliance Association Conference. She was selected as a National Urban/Rural Fellow and awarded her MPA – Urban Planning and Rural Economic Development, Baruch College, CUNY. She holds a BBA – Management/Marketing from the University of Texas at San Antonio. She is a graduate of Sam Houston High School in San Antonio, Texas.


    She has also worked as the Chief of Staff for State Senator Rodney Ellis, Houston and Councilman George Stevens, San Diego, CA. She was selected as one of the San Antonio Business Journal’s “40 under 40” Rising Stars. Renee is an alumnus of Leadership SAISD, Master Leadership Program (MLP) San Antonio, Leadership Texas, The PhD Project, People to People Ambassador Program - China, Leadership America, Leadership California, and Leadership San Antonio.

Renee has served as the Diversity Committee Chair for the Institute of Supply Management (ISM) San Antonio Chapter and member of the ISM National Learning Solutions Advisory Committee. She has also served on the Sierra Club – Alamo Group Executive Committee.

The Advocacy Award recognizes a San Antonio area woman who has offered her time and voice as a proponent of public and business issues and encourages women to advocate for the needs and policies in their community.
