SAHCC Supports Direct Relief for Micro and Small Businesses

SAN ANTONIO (May 13, 2021) - The COVID-19 pandemic has presented many hardships for small businesses in San Antonio and around the nation. This is why the San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (SAHCC) is proud to advocate for measures at every level of government that would benefit the small businesses we serve.

In December of 2020, the SAHCC Board of Directors approved a resolution in support of economic relief for San Antonio small businesses. The SAHCC understands that supporting small businesses is key to our economic recovery.

The City of San Antonio is anticipated to receive an installment of the more than $326 million this week from the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021. The SAHCC urges the San Antonio City Council to provide direct relief to micro and small businesses that continue to suffer as a result of the pandemic.

Economic relief, in the form of grants, for small businesses would help them pay rent, keep employees on the payroll, and speed up our local economic recovery. While federal forms of aid like the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) aim to encourage businesses to keep employees on their payroll, more opportunities are needed to alleviate some of the difficulties small businesses face due to rent and leasing expenses.

The SAHCC looks forward to collaborating with the San Antonio City Council to ensure adequate support for our local small businesses during these times so they can keep their doors open.
