October 14, 2021 (SAN ANTONIO, TX) – Boeing, the world's largest aerospace company and provider of nearly 600 businesses in Texas, announced they will be donating $20,000 to San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce’s (SAHCC) Latina Leadership Institute (LLI).
When it comes to Latinas in leadership positions in our nation, history has shown its fair share of disproportionate numbers. Latinas have made up slightly more than one percent of Congress and one percent of State Legislators. These low numbers demonstrate why programs like LLI are so important.
Boeing’s advocacy for community diversity through this grant will help create additional leadership opportunities for more Latinas in San Antonio, and in turn, set the stage to create a national impact.
“Mobilizing people from diverse backgrounds and genders will help ensure more perspectives are included in the political process,” said Tyler Schroeder, the Senior Manager of Boeing National Strategy & Engagement. “The San Antonio Hispanic Chamber’s Latina Leadership Institute does exactly this by providing training that is tailored to helping each Hispanic woman cultivate skills to successfully participate in civic engagement. Boeing’s $20,000 contribution to the San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce will help foster more inclusion in politics.”
The SAHCC is proud to be awarded this opportunity from Boeing, marking a long-standing relationship in community engagement with their Members.
“This partnership will open many doors for future Latina Leaders, ensuring the opportunity to learn necessary skills and confidence to pursue leadership roles through career opportunities and civic engagement,” said Marina Gonzales, SAHCC President & CEO. “We look forward to welcoming and congratulating Latina Leadership Institute Boeing scholarship recipients over the next 5 years.”
The Boeing Scholarship will be distributed starting in 2022 for selected incoming Latinas who are accepted to participate in the Program. For more information on how you can get involved with our Hispanic Leadership Development Foundation Programs, please email Emmah@sahcc.org.
