SAN ANTONIO, TX (January 8, 2021)– This past Thursday, the San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce held their annual 2021 State Legislative Panel Discussion through a virtual format. This event, moderated by former Chairman, Eddie Aldrete, welcomed panelists, former Speaker of the Texas House, Joe Straus, and Dr. Victoria M DeFrancesco Soto, an MSNBC Contributor and Dean of Civic Engagement for LBJ School of Public Affairs. Together they discussed the Overview of Current Political Climate & Preview of 87th State Legislature.

The SAHCC was proud to welcome Port SA as their title sponsor of the event, a large and dynamic technology and innovation campus in San Antonio—a place that provides connected solutions in an increasingly connected world.

The discussion covered timely topics surrounding the 2020 election, including the Capital riots on Wednesday. “We’ve all had some time to reflect, express ourselves, and talk about what a sad day it was,” said Joe Straus, Former Speaker of the Texas House. “Everyone who’s been the United States Capital knows what sacred ground that really is, and how violated all Americans should have felt yesterday.”

Additional topics that were discussed in the panel included voting turnout and demographics in Texas for the 2020 election, census projections, and local campaigns practices in the midst of a pandemic.
